Popular Washington, DC sportscaster Steve Buckhantz has been with Comcast SportsNet for 11 years, following nearly fourteen years as the sports director and lead sports anchor at Fox 5 in D.C. With 24 years of broadcasting in Washington, he is one of the longest tenured sportscasters in our region.
Steve Buckhantz is set to begin his 12th season with Comcast SportsNet as the play-by-play announcer for Washington Wizards telecasts. Buckhantz' work last season earned him an Emmy award, his second such honor for play-by-play.
Buckhantz's signature calls of "dagger" and "backbreaker" have worked their way into the area's vernacular and now can be heard regularly on sports highlight shows around the country.
Buckhantz is a native of Washington, DC, born in the District and raised in nearby Arlington, VA. He attended Washington-Lee High School, was the senior class vice president and earned two varsity letters on the W & L football team.
His education continued at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA where he began his broadcasting career at WMRA-FM, the campus radio station. Buckhantz graduated from JMU with a BS degree in communication arts. In 1995, Buckhantz was honored with JMU’s distinguished alumni award.
